Right out of the box, these sounded really good and got even better as they broke in over a several week period. The first set of these I bought went into a Marshall TSL602. The Green Beret offered the traditional 70's "lost marshall sound". Very organic, woody type smooth cone breakup with lots of low ooomph and mids. The highs are nice in my opinion (not spikey but just right). Worth the effort for sure. Great chunky chord speakers but also well defined for single note definition at moderate power levels. I bought a set of the green frame Beret's for a Marshall 1936 cab which sits under the TSL. The TSL602 is an open back so the sound is open and with less lows than the closed back 1936 cab which is definitely darker with more lows. The mix of the open and closed back setup works really well for a high gain setup like mine. It smolders with tone and has an aggressive marshall growl now.
